Dear David,
In taking the time out to reflect on your skills and accomplishments
with MED Associates and then Boatracs, several assets and achievements
come to mind. Any future employer or business partner should easily
realize your ability to contribute. As your immediate supervisor and close
business associate for several years, I’m uniquely qualified to comment.
I hope my recitation of our story will aid your future endeavors.
You are a man of uncompromising character. Your word is always true and
I personally attest to your honesty in face of potential personal loss.
That honesty extends to the intellectual sphere. I never feared that you
would over embellish facts or promise results that were unachievable. The
World’s standards of truth and forthrightness lack the degrees of the
absolute that are second nature to you. There was not a single customer or
company associate who ever doubted your word.
You have a keen intellect and are able to examine problems, gather
facts and zero in on a solution without becoming distracted by related but
irrelevant issues. Furthermore, you are able to mentally synthesize
conceptual designs with very little input and then create practical
solutions to reflect those designs. On many occasions you developed living
software code that accomplished a desired conceptual objective.
Programming tools like the MED Utils, Q-Scripting and the data transfer
protocols are a few examples of solutions that you developed from concept
to execution.
You have an artist’s flair in creating software that is attractive
and functional. Your designs and artwork added a desirable flair to our
applications. As a result they were not only easy but also entertaining to
use. The menu layout and design system is still in use and your icon
artwork is frequently incorporated into selected applications. You are one
of the few people I’ve ever worked with whose work reflects both
extremes of creative thought – the artistic and the intellectual.
As part of the design and programming team you were timely in
delivering your work and accurate in your predictions of how long it would
take you to get the work done. You were always open with your coworkers,
willing to share knowledge and eager to teach others what you knew.
It was a difficult decision when our sales declined significantly and I
had to select staff for a force reduction. In looking back on the early
years of MED Associates, when we were in the early design and production
stages of our business, your arrival was one of supreme good fortune for
the company. Since then our business has changed especially as the economy
and business cycle have declined forcing a permanent change in our product
and service mix
Most sincerely yours,
