AUTOMATED STREAMLINED INSPECTION PROGRAM.
This application replaced a four-inch thick binder listing U.S. Coast Guard-required inspections of workboats. Under the manual system, they were making grease pencil marks on plastic sheet protectors, then copying the data to another paper to send to the home office. This application tracked all individual inspections, programmed reminders of deficiency corrections required, interfaces automatically with the programmed maintenance system (described above), and transmits all data to and from the home office via satellite. This way, the home office has up-to-the-minute inspection status reports for the entire fleet.

Results: Enthusiastic endorsement by the U.S. Coast Guard. This program provides much better historical inspection tracking than any previous method, and allows the home office to keep close tabs on the inspection status of each vessel, something that was not possible before. The interaction with the preventive maintenance program has significantly increase vehicle in-commission rates.
