TUGBOAT OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS.
Eight different applications provide automation for four clients in the same business, but who run their businesses in widely varying ways. These applications provide most of the Captain's Log capabilities as in Workboat Management Systems, described above, and also provide the capability to track barges being moved by these vessels. There are such additional capabilities as tracking and logging of Barge Events (pickup, dropoff, loading, unloading, etc), barge cargos, barge heater logs, barge cargo temperature logs, barge fuel logs, demurrage logs, fleeting operations, and barge washing. Additionally, on the shore side, there are scheduling functions, bidding functions, trip progress tracking,

Results: Before this program, the clients were having to wait as long as two weeks for the boats to return to port before getting their paper logs, then there was intensive manual labor to transcribe all data. This meant they frequently had more than one-month delays between doing the work and billing the customer. With this system, they have the data ready to use in billing the customer within 24 hours, and there are no transcription errors. Computerized records of tow configurations, specific to any date and time, have been used in legal proceedings to verify or deny claims for damage.
