VEHICLE CONTRACT STATUS DATABASE. This
application is totally interactive with the Vehicle Specifications Database,
described above, and provides the capability to track and report on the
contract status of all vehicles in the fleet, in seventeen offices in thirteen
countries worldwide. This application allows area managers to report on the
status of all vehicles in their area, then synchronize their data with that at
the home office, and instantly see the status of all other vehicles in the
world. This allows the manager in Dubai, for example, to see which vehicles
are available in Scotland or Singapore, and bid those vehicles if necessary. A
set of management reports provides utilization data for the worldwide fleet,
enabling management to evaluate the performance of the areas.
Results: Before this program, worldwide area managers had data on
vessel status that was frequently out of date, and it would take them ten
days to two weeks to negotiate an inter-area contract bid. With this
program, the vessel status data is always accurate as of the latest
synchronization, and inter-area contract bids can be completed in less
than 24 hours. Previously, it took several hundred man-hours each month to
prepare management-required reports on utilization; now these reports are
produced automatically from normal data entry.
